YOUNG LOTUS: TACKLING CHILDHOOD OBESITY

Almost 1,000 of the most creative minds in the advertising world have gathered in Pattaya. But, alongside these pros, we also have our up-and-coming Young Lotus competitors: 15 teams, aged under 28, battling for the pride and respect of their peers and industry leaders.

Young Lotus is one of the only mentoring programs in the world that gives young creatives the chance to step outside their comfort zone to be mentored by the world’s best advertising leaders. This year’s workshop is hosted by ADK, and yesterday the teams received a mock brief for World Health Organisation – with just one day to meet the deadline.

The brief is: give kids a better life, end childhood obesity. There are 124 million obese children worldwide, and our Young Lotus competitors have the daunting task of creating ‘a social movement for change’ to fight childhood obesity using non-traditional advertising channels.

Chairman Rob Sherlock explained: “The problem is serious, but the answer doesn’t necessarily have to be doom and gloom. How on earth are you going to move people with such a massive task?”

The teams now have 24-hours to come up with the best solution they can, and will have exactly ten minutes to present their idea today, when ADK’s mentors will vote on their favorite finalists. The clock has started.

* Watch this year’s Young Lotus finalists present their ideas live on stage this Saturday at a session called, ‘ADK Presents Young Lotus 2018: You Are What You Consume’, hosted by Rob Sherlock, Chairman of ADK Global, Tokyo.
