YOUNG LOTUS : MEET IMITAZ KABIR FROM ADCOMM LTD. (DHAKA)

Imitaz Kabir was the only competitor to compete solo at last year’s Young Lotus Workshop – which makes it all the more impressive that he was one of only three finalists!

Based in Dhaka, Kabir is a Visualizer at ADCOMM LTD. He was supposed to take part in the Young Lotus Workshop with a colleague, but when visa issues got in the way, he took on the brief alone.

ADFEST’s Young Lotus Workshop is a mentoring program for junior creatives. Last year’s teams were mentored by MullenLowe Group, while this year’s teams will be mentored by Isobar.

You were a Young Lotus finalist last year, congratulations! What did you learn from being part of the program?

Young Lotus is an opportunity to know about what is going on in the advertising world. As a participant of the program, I have learnt about the thought process of young advertisers from different corners of the world. Moreover, I would like to say it’s not just a competition, it’s a chance to prove oneself in a global platform, and to learn many things at one time.

You were given a real-world brief from Google. What was your idea?

Google Home is a smart device with a personal assistant. It has lots of features. But users are not concerned about this. The brief was to educate or inform people about Google Home’s features. My idea was “Telling features by itself”. I presented that whenever we ask a question to Google, we are given answers. But what if it gives a suggestion about its features?! It’s a huge benefit for both a user and Google itself. For example, if we ask Google about the weather, it gives a weather report. In addition, Google gives a suggestion to set a reminder to take an umbrella.

Any favorite memories of Thailand?

Thailand is a place for plenty of memories. I have visited Thailand many times. I can remember I met with many people this time from different countries. I also could know about their cultures.

Were you worried about having to compete alone? What was the toughest part of the challenge?

It was a horrible experience that every team was made of two persons, but I was single. But I took the brief and could easily understand it. So, it was not a big deal for me. Simply I completed the whole thing.

Tell us about ADCOMM LTD. How long have your worked there? What have you been working on lately?

ADCOMM is a one of the most experienced and highly professional advertising agencies in Bangladesh. I am working here for the last 2 years. It feels like home here.

How does living in Dhaka inspire you?

Living in Dhaka is a mixed experience. But yes, I would obviously say that here I live with my family and also I get global experiences as Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh. More or less, it’s good to stay here.

Do you have any advice for junior creatives: is there a secret to succeeding/surviving in ad land?

Towards junior creatives I would like to say that the more you observe your surroundings the more you learn or get inspired to innovate something.
