SAWADEE, WELCOME TO ADFEST 2018!

Today, ADFEST 2018 officially begins in beautiful Thailand, welcoming over 1,000 delegates from 69 cities who will stream through its doors for the four-day festival, which runs from 21st – 24th March 2018.

The theme for ADFEST 2018 is TRANSFORM, which reflects how creativity can help businesses connect, succeed and remain relevant in the fast-changing digital economy.

Today’s highlights include sessions from Marko Klijn, Cirkus; Kumi Shimamoto and Ravinunt Nena Putthibavornkul from Getty Images; Greg Attwells of FINCH; Tamon Fujimi from MassiveMusic; Adams Fan from F5; Barry Greaves of MPC Shanghai; and Dentsu One’s Yuichi Toyoda and Subun Khow.

In this video interview (above), ADFEST President Jimmy Lam explains how ADFEST contributes as a force for good: “Our industry needs to set the benchmark every year and send a signal about, ‘What is the best creativity?’ Imagine what it would be like for the movie industry if there were no Oscars? Creative awards will always have their relevance.”

“For our festival, awards are only part of what we do – ADFEST is also a platform for people across the Asia Pacific and MENA region to come together to exchange ideas and see the best creativity in the past year.”

Jimmy has helped to spearhead the introduction of the live INNOVA Shortlist presentation, which runs today from 9:30am to 1pm in Hall A2.

“We are in the business of selling ideas. Even if you create a great idea but you can’t sell it, it’s not complete. In the INNOVA Lotus category, we’re talking about innovation, and what’s going to happen in the very near future. It’s a very important category, and when you see the creators presenting their ideas to our super panel of eight jury presidents, I believe it’s going to be a very rewarding session,” he says.

ADFEST delegates will have the chance to watch case studies presented by McCann Worldgroup (Mumbai), TBWA\Shanghai (Shanghai), TBWA\Hakuhodo (Tokyo), McGarryBowen (Shanghai), INNOCEAN Worldwide (Seoul), Hakuhodo Inc./ TBWA\HAKUHODO (Tokyo) and BBDO Bangkok (Bangkok).

This could be a high-pressure ordeal, with presenters facing tough questions from Jury Presidents Saharath Sawadatikom, Melvin Mangada, Derry Simpson, Timo Mitsuaki Otsuki, Levi Slavin, Kitty Lun, Santosh Padhi and Joyce King Thomas.

Over the next four days, we’ll be reporting on ADFEST’s speakers, workshops, networking events and award winners. And of course, you can follow the action on ADFEST’s social channels!
